Detroit is the largest city in the state of Michigan. The city of Detroit is synonymous with the American auto industry as well as some popular music legacies. Known as the “Motor City” and “MoTown”, Detroit is one of the most iconic of all American cities. The metro Detroit area has approximately 5 million residents making it the eleventh largest city in America. The city of Detroit has undergone revivals and redevelopment over the decades since its dominance of the American auto industry since the 50’s and onward. Two new sports stadiums were constructed, the classic Cadillac and Fort Shelby Hotels have been reopened, and many downtown improvements were made since 2005 after Detroit hosted the ’05 MLB All Star Game, the 2006 NFL Super Bowl XL, the 2006 World Series, and the NCAA Final Four in 2009. Currently, the Detroit riverfront is being transformed into a pedestrian and shopping center that will rival similar developments in other major waterfront American cities.
