Houston is the fourth largest city in America, home to nearly 6 million people. Houston was founded in 1836 in America’s ‘wild west’, near the banks of Buffalo Bayou. Houston economy is broadly industrial in energy, manufacturing, aeronautics, and transportation. NASA’s famous Johnson Space Center is also located in Houston. Houston is also a leader in health care sectors and building oilfield equipment. There is only one American city with more Fortune 500 companies located within city limits, and that is New York City. Houston attracts around 7 million visitors a year through cultural districts and museums alone; the city has an active and diverse performing arts scene in Theater as well. The University of Houston contributes over $1billion in new funds attracted to the Houston area and generates thousands of jobs. Forbes ranked Houston as third Best Place for Business and Careers in America in 2006.
